--------------------------------------------------------------------
THANK YOU for purchasing IBM PC software products from Software
Express/Direct. We hope you will be happy with these and future
software programs you buy from us...
This short HELP file outlines the basics of using our entire line of
software programs, but most of our MASTER SELECTIONS and POPULAR
SOFTWARE packages also have individual HELP files which relate to
their use. These HELP files appear on your disk directory with a
.DOC extension.
We think you will be able to use most of our programs immediately
with little or no additional instructions, but please take a few
minutes to familiarize yourself with some of the basics of our
software collection.
Programs Stored on This Diskette...
-----------------------------------
The software programs you order from Software Express/Direct have
been copied to this diskette by a special high-speed disk duplication
system. This method of filling orders allows us give you the benefit
of some of the lowest software prices in the industry.
For your convenience, the "run names" for individual program titles
contained in this diskette have been printed on the outer label of
this diskette.
Running Software Express/Direct Programs...
-------------------------------------------
MASTER SELECTION and POPULAR SOFTWARE programs stored on disk end
with ".EXE." To run these programs, start from the DOS command prompt
(A>) and type the portion of the name preceeding .EXE.
For example, the program LOANPAK is stored on disk as LOANPAK.EXE. To
run this program, type:
LOANPAK
at the DOS prompt (A>), and press the ENTER key.
HELP Files for Individual Programs...
-------------------------------------
Many of our MASTER SELECTION and POPULAR SOFTWARE programs also
contain their own HELP files. To help you identify the HELP file for
each program, the program's title is combined with a .DOC extension.
For instance, the HELP file for one of our programs, LOANPAK.EXE, is
named LOANPAK.DOC. You may view a help file by using EXPRESS HELP menu
option 3, "Read program documentation". You will be presented with a menu
of the available HELP files on the diskette. Highlight the desired
HELP file, then press the ENTER key to view the file.
At this point, the HELP file will be displayed on your screen. You
may use the arrow keys to select any one of a number of commands to
view the next or previous screen, to print the current screen, or to
stop reading the HELP file.
Using MASTER SELECTION and POPULAR SOFTWARE Programs...
-------------------------------------------------------
The pull-down window format of these Software Express Direct programs
make them simple, fast, and effective to use. Most options of a
program can be accessed by pressing the UP, DOWN, RIGHT, and LEFT
arrow key to "highlight" a command; then by pressing the ENTER key to
select the desired command. Other commands which are unique to a
particular program are clearly presented on the lower line of your
screen.
Using Programs from THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL...
-------------------------------------------
Programs from THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL have been developed by many
individual software authors and therefore do not feature the Software
Express/Direct window interface. Many of these programs also contain
individual HELP files. HELP files for these programs end in ".DOC."
For your convenience, HELP files for programs in THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL
begin with the name of the individual program.
For example, the HELP file for the program RAM DISK I is stored to
disk as RAMDISK.DOC. To view this file, insert the disk containing
the help file in Drive A; start from the A> prompt and type:
TYPE RAMDISK.DOC
then press the ENTER key. You may stop the display of the HELP file
by simultaneously pressing the CONTROL and NUM LOCK keys on your
keyboard. Then press any other key to resume viewing. For more
information on the DOS TYPE command, consult your DOS manual.
Running Programs from THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL...
---------------------------------------------
Programs from THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL are stored on disk in one of three
different formats:
.EXE or .COM - Programs ending in .EXE or .COM are run in the same way
as previously described; simply type the program name as it appears in
the disk directory then press the ENTER key.
.BAS - Programs ending in .BAS must be run along with the BASIC
supplied with your IBM PC or compatible.
To run a BASIC program, start at the DOS A> prompt, insert the disk
containing BASIC in Drive B and the disk containing the BASIC program
you wish to run in Drive A, type:
B:BASIC [program name]
and press the ENTER key.
Some programs in THE SOFTWARE CHANNEL, especially those using color
and graphics, require the use of Advanced BASIC, which is included on
your BASIC disk. To run a program this way, you must substitute the
word BASICA for BASIC and repeat the steps above.
NOTE: The above instructions regarding the running of BASIC programs
pertains to IBM micro computers. If you have a compatible, the
procedure for running BASIC programs may be different. Consult
your BASIC manual for using BASIC on your system.

The label of your Software
Express/Direct diskette lists the file
names of all the programs it contains.
There are two types of programs as
determined by the last three letters of
the file name:
1. .BAT files - these files are BATCH
files;
.COM files - these files are COMMAND
programs;
.EXE files - these files are
EXECUTABLE programs
2. .BAS files - these files are BASIC
programs
Files ending in .BAT, .COM, .EXE must be
run from the DOS (Disk Operating System)
prompt (e.g.: A> or C> for hard disk
computers). A copy of this Software
Express/Direct diskette should be in
Drive A. To run a file, just type in
the file name (without the period and
last three letters) at the "A>" prompt.
EXAMPLE: file name on label -
WORLDCLK.EXE
To run this program, start
from the "A>" prompt and
type:
WORLDCLK
then press the enter key.

Files ending in .BAS must be run by
using BASIC or BASICA (Advanced BASIC).
PC (and compatible) owners should put
their DOS diskette (containing BASICA)
in Drive B and a copy of this Software
Express/Direct diskette in Drive A. The

BASICA, a space, and the program name
(without the .BAS ending) at the DOS
"A>" prompt.

STOCK.BAS
To run this program, start
from the "A>" prompt and
type:
B:BASICA STOCK
then press the enter key.
SAMPLE: A>BASICA STOCK <Enter>
{program starts}
Hard disk owners should have already
copied the BASICA files to their hard
disk. A copy of this Software
Express/Direct diskette should be in
Drive A. Drive A should be selected by
typing A:. The next step is to type
C:BASICA, a space, and the program name
(without the .BAS ending) at the DOS
"A>" prompt.
EXAMPLE: file name on label -
STOCK.BAS
To run this program, start
from the "C>" prompt and
type:
A:
then press the enter key;
next type:
C:BASICA STOCK
then press the enter key.
SAMPLE: C>A: <Enter>
